The Philippine Science High School System (PSHS) plans to extend its curriculum by two more years in hopes of enhancing its advanced science program.

PSHS System Executive Director Filma Brawner said that they have initiated studies for a proposed extension of its curriculum. This plan reinforces the 12-year basic education cycle proposed by the Department of Education (DepEd), to make high school graduates employable even without a college diploma.

The Teachers' Dignity Coalition said that the budget allocation for hiring 10,000 new teachers for next school year is welcome but deem this as not enough to reduce the problem in lack of teachers in public schools.

Benjo Basas, TDC national chairperson said that if the Department of Education wants to achieve the ideal teacher-student ratio, it should hire more than 120,000 teachers. “The 10,000 new teachers is just a small piece of the bulk,” Basas added.

P12.4 billion of the proposed budget is also allocated for the construction of some 20,000 new classrooms.

College students from all over the world can get a chance to shape the future of aviation and win EUR30,000 in a competition launched by Airbus at the Farnborough International Airshow in United Kingdom.

The competition entitled Airbus Fly Your Ideas (FYI) asks students to develop ideas to make the aviation industry greener or more environment-friendly. The contest, which is held every two years, involves three rounds of different activities which are judged by a panel of aviation industry experts.
